to shaping a generation.
A foundation passed on
Nicolae Dumitru studied with Dan Mizrahy and performed Mozart’s Piano Concerto K. 488 at the Romanian Athenaeum in 1987. Between 1990 and 2001, he trained in the Russian piano tradition, graduating from Moscow’s Gnessin Russian Academy of Music in 1998 in Mihail Sayamov’s class. Emmanuel Monaszon played a central role in his artistic development.
Performance and education
His concert career has taken him to stages in Romania and abroad, including the Romanian Athenaeum and Radio Hall, as well as Moscow, Vienna, Stockholm and other European cities. He has combined performing with teaching at Bucharest’s George Enescu National College.
In 2013, he launched the national educational recital programme “ConCerto!”. His interest in bringing music into dialogue with other arts can also be seen in “Fantaisies”, a multimedia recital presented at the Romanian Athenaeum in 2023.
Mentoring what comes next
Within Concerto, his experience meets the developing careers of young pianists Alex Becheru and Gruia Soare. Training, performance opportunities and sustained support are parts of the same commitment: creating the conditions in which artistic excellence can grow and find its stage.
